REQUEST GLASS-GRADE SAMPLE → VIEW SPECIFICATIONSIn glass manufacturing, feldspar serves primarily as a cost-effective source of alumina (Al₂O₃), which improves a glass's chemical durability, scratch resistance, and resistance to devitrification (unwanted crystallisation) — properties that pure silica-soda-lime glass lacks on its own. Feldspar's own Na₂O or K₂O content contributes secondary flux value alongside the primary flux (usually soda ash), while its Fe₂O₃ content is watched closely since even small amounts of iron produce a visible green tint that is unacceptable in clear container and sheet glass.
| GLASS TYPE | AL₂O₃ TARGET | FE₂O₃ CEILING |
|---|---|---|
| Clear Container Glass | 17-19% | <0.08% |
| Clear Sheet/Float Glass | 17-20% | <0.05-0.08% |
| Amber/Colored Container Glass | 17-19% | <0.15-0.20% |
| Fiberglass (E-Glass Related) | 18-20% | <0.10% |
PRIORITY 01
The primary reason feldspar is used in glass batches at all — verify this is consistently in range, since it's the property differentiating feldspar from a pure flux source like soda ash.
PRIORITY 02
For clear glass, iron is the most damaging impurity, producing a visible green tint even at concentrations that would be unremarkable in a ceramic tile body.
PRIORITY 03
Whichever feldspar type is used (soda or potash), consistent Na₂O/K₂O content supports stable melt viscosity, important for continuous glass furnace operation where a batch shift can disrupt the whole production line.
PRIORITY 04
Finer, uniform particle size supports faster, more complete dissolution into the melt within the furnace's residence time, reducing the risk of undissolved grains (stones) in the finished glass.
PRIORITY 05
Gas release during melting can create seeds and bubbles in the finished glass — a visible defect in both container and sheet glass applications.
Both potash and soda feldspar supplied with alumina content verified and held consistent lot to lot, supporting the chemical durability improvement glass manufacturers rely on feldspar for.
Fe₂O₃ as low as <0.05% available for clear container and sheet glass applications where colour purity is non-negotiable.
Al₂O₃, Na₂O/K₂O, Fe₂O₃, LOI, and mesh grading verified per lot — supporting stable furnace operation shipment after shipment.
Mine-direct scale from Rajasthan's Aravalli belt supports the continuous, high-volume supply glass furnace operations require.
Since 1992, Aalok Overseas has supplied mine-direct, NABL-certified feldspar to glass manufacturers across 50+ countries. A continuous glass furnace has no tolerance for surprises — verified, consistent Al₂O₃ and Fe₂O₃ on every shipment is what keeps a melt stable.
Q
Feldspar is used primarily as a cost-effective source of alumina (Al₂O₃), which improves a glass's chemical durability and resistance to devitrification, while also contributing secondary flux value from its Na₂O or K₂O content.
Q
17-20% Al₂O₃ is typical for glass-grade feldspar, with the exact target depending on the specific glass formulation and target chemical durability.
Q
Iron oxide produces a visible green tint in glass even at low concentrations, which is unacceptable for clear container and sheet glass, making Fe₂O₃ control more critical here than in many ceramic applications.
Q
Both are used depending on the specific glass formulation and furnace design; the choice often depends on the desired secondary flux contribution and compatibility with the primary soda ash flux already in the batch.
Q
Request a NABL-accredited XRF COA showing Al₂O₃, Na₂O/K₂O, Fe₂O₃, LOI, and mesh grading, and run a furnace trial to confirm melt behaviour and glass clarity before committing to continuous bulk supply.
