In white emulsion paint and exterior coatings, quartz powder is used as an extender pigment alongside TiO₂. When quartz whiteness is high (95%+), it extends TiO₂ efficiency — meaning you need less TiO₂ to achieve the same hiding power and brightness. A paint manufacturer using 95% whiteness quartz vs 82% whiteness quartz can save 8–12% TiO₂ cost per batch.
Wall putty (cement + silica + additives) is applied to walls before painting. The final painted wall brightness depends directly on the whiteness of the putty layer beneath. High-whiteness quartz (90–95%) in putty formulations creates a brighter, more reflective base that makes any top-coat paint appear more brilliant.
In clear float glass, container glass, and fibreglass, SiO₂ forms 70–74% of the glass batch. Any iron contamination in quartz directly converts to colour in the glass melt — even 0.03% Fe₂O₃ creates a greenish tint in clear float glass. Quartz powder in ceramic body formulations (typically 20–28%) directly influences the fired whiteness of the final tile. Low-iron quartz (Fe₂O₃ <0.05%) combined with low-iron feldspar creates the white porcelain stoneware body that premium tile buyers demand. Every 0.01% excess iron in quartz costs approx. 0.3 whiteness points in the fired tile.
In white tile adhesive, silicone sealants, and polyurethane adhesives, quartz powder provides thixotropy, density, and dimensional stability. High-whiteness quartz ensures the adhesive or sealant remains visually clean and white — critical for premium white grout and tile adhesive products sold in the EU, GCC, and US markets.
As a functional filler in rubber and plastics, quartz powder improves stiffness, dimensional stability, and abrasion resistance. High-whiteness quartz (88–92%) is preferred in white and light-coloured rubber products — footwear soles, white gaskets, light-coloured cable sheaths — where iron-staining from the filler would be visually unacceptable.
