Why feldspar is the most critical raw material in sanitaryware:

Sanitaryware body is typically 50–60% feldspar by weight.

No other raw material has a greater influence on:

🔥 Vitrification — feldspar is the primary flux. It melts at 1180–1280°C and fills the body with a glassy liquid phase. This liquid phase is what makes sanitaryware non-porous, hard and hygienic. Inconsistent feldspar = incomplete vitrification = porous body that absorbs water and stains.

📐 Shrinkage control — sanitaryware shrinks 10–14% during firing. On a complex shape like a WC pan — uneven shrinkage creates internal stress. Stress creates cracks. Cracks create rejections. Consistent K₂O/Na₂O = consistent shrinkage = crack-free geometry.

⚪ Glaze fit — the thermal expansion of the body must match the glaze precisely. If feldspar chemistry shifts between batches — body expansion shifts. Glaze crazes or peels. The entire glost firing is lost.

✨ Surface whiteness — premium sanitaryware demands L* ≥ 88. Fe₂O₃ above 0.15% in feldspar introduces grey or pink tones that no glaze can fully mask. Luxury buyers see it immediately.
